Synopsis - The Day In The Life Of John Denizen

Synopsis

Are you living the life you want to live?

Will you seize your opportunity when it comes?

Do you have unfinished business?

The Day In The Life Of John Denizen is the story of an everyman Londoner stifled under the demands of modern life and office, moving from despondency towards hope and finally love.  A millennial at odds with himself, John Denizen drifts from day to day having lost his spark in a mundane but necessary day job routine.  His imagination gets him through the day and further finds an outlet in writing but unsuccessfully so far. A frustrated creative soul, living alone and unhappy with the way his life has turned out, John’s search for meaning is helped by those around him including his mother whose death was 2 years ago this day.

Are you willing to overlook and forgive someone’s mistake?

Joan Day, also of the title, works for the same company and still has her spark, enjoys her career, and now has to decide on a New York promotion.  She also has not-so-secret feelings for John.  After their burgeoning relationship takes an unexpected turn, she becomes disillusioned with him only to realise something else later.

Do you care how corrupt you’ve become?

The haughty manager Edward Bancroft, Esq, browbeating his put-upon staff as always, laments a lost England. His impropriety and corruption is never punished because of his connections.

How far will you go to fight for justice?

John’s cohort and politically minded friend Alexander is not afraid to fight the powers that be no matter the consequences. Will Alexander, who’s prepared to put everything on the line, inspire John to do the same?

Where can you find meaning? Will John battle against or surrender to the forces from without and the forces within? Will the status quo be maintained? What choices will he make as this state of affairs comes to a head to climax at the very end of a momentous workday?

This two act musical enacts, through ensemble, solo or duo pieces, the activities and emotions of everyday London life for the typical office worker.  Using rock music with a variety of other influences, these songs use humour, sarcasm, anger, melancholy and more to convey what we all feel about the state of modern life in the suburbs and in the city.  The songs create a cathartic experience for the everyday worker who may feel overlooked on stage.
